You are likely to experience delays due to the work on various parts of the dike. This means that not all driving lanes will be available at all times and the cycle path will be closed for three years. We will arrange shuttle bus services for slow traffic. The sluices will also alternatingly be closed for short periods of time, ships will have to take another route.
One lane closed
From 24 June 2019 on, motorists will experience hindrance on the Afsluitdijk due to the subsequent closure of different stretches of one of both lanes. Traffic will be diverted on to the other lane, which means there is only one lane available per driving direction.
Wadden Sea side of emergency port Breezanddijk closed
Levvel will set up a storage and logistics area at Breezanddijk. Therefore the port complex will be closed on the side of the Wadden Sea from 19 August 2019 until the end of 2022. The port will be accessible for ships in emergency situations and during calamities. The port will be dredged and the complex grounds will be heightened so that the site office and the worksite will not be flooded during high tide. An additional entranceway to the worksite will be constructed from the frontage road to allow access for site traffic. The existing terminal of the bicycle bus will therefore be relocated a little farther down the road.
Camper site Kornwerderzand closed
Levvel (a partnership between BAM, Van Oord and Rebel) will carry out the reinforcement work for Rijkswaterstaat. Levvel will make preparations for the works, which includes the setting up of a number of worksites. The camper site near Kornwerderzand will be used for one of these worksites and will therefore be closed from 1 February 2019 till 2023 (for the entire duration of the works). The jetty and the docks will only be accessible for emergency services. Any vehicles parked in this area during this period will be towed.
Between 26 October 2020 and 25 April 2021 the Stevin sluices near Den Oever will be closed for all shipping. This closure is necessary in order to allow the construction of the new storm surge barrier in the outport of the sluice complex. During this period the concrete of the sluices will also be inspected and repaired if necessary. Ships should take an alternative route via the Lorentz sluices at Kornwerderzand.
Cycle path closed
Since 1 April, pedestrians, cyclists, moped riders and mobility scooters have been able to make use of a free bicycle bus service. This service operates daily. Check the time table.
