Rijkswaterstaat

Rijkswaterstaat is the executive agency of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and works daily towards a safe, livable, and accessible Netherlands. We aim to live in a country protected from flooding. A country with enough green spaces and clean water. And where we can travel quickly and safely from A to B.

The development of the country is also about balancing different interests, such as the economy, the environment, and quality of life. The people of Rijkswaterstaat work daily towards this goal. With over 200 years of expertise in shaping our country, they know that this is more than just technically executing projects on roads and waterways. It’s also about balancing all these interests: the economy, the environment, and quality of life.

Provincie Fryslân

The Province of Fryslân is a government organization that contributes to a beautiful and strong Fryslân. We work towards creating a great living, working, and social environment for all residents and businesses in Fryslân, together with the community (mienskip). We aim to balance economic interests with a healthy natural environment.

The New Afsluitdijk (DNA)

The New Afsluitdijk (DNA) was a collaboration between the provinces of North Holland and Fryslân and the municipalities of Hollands Kroon and Súdwest-Fryslân from 2011 to 2023. The goal of The New Afsluitdijk was to make the Afsluitdijk an example of sustainable innovation in the fields of energy, economy, and ecology. Together, these sustainable developments contribute to the socio-economic strengthening of the regions on both sides of the Afsluitdijk. The ambitions are outlined in the Ambition Agenda Afsluitdijk. While working on the major project for dike strengthening and renewal, the region continues to collaborate with the national government under the name The New Afsluitdijk.

The national government, provinces, and municipalities have made agreements about this collaboration, which are described in a governance agreement.
