Rijkswaterstaat and the Province of Fryslân want everyone to be able to read and use all the information and services on their website with ease. That is why we are working to improve the accessibility of the website theAfsluitdijk.com, so that it meets the accessibility standard EN 301 549 (formerly the Web Guidelines).

Accessibility audit

In April 2025, Stichting Accessibility assessed our website to identify areas where theAfsluitdijk.com could be improved to become more digitally accessible. The research report provides a detailed explanation of each component that was reviewed. A new assessment will take place in 2028.

Accessibility certificate

Accessibility is not only a legal obligation — we are committed to it because we believe it is important that everyone, including people with disabilities, can navigate our website with ease. Digital accessibility remains a priority for us and is therefore a continuous process.

This accessibility statement applies to the website:
www.theafsluitdijk.com

Digital accessibility

The goal of the accessibility guidelines is to ensure that theAfsluitdijk.com is usable by as many people as possible, regardless of any impairments or individual preferences. This means:

  • The web pages are written in clear language so that as many people as possible can understand them.
  • Videos and documents are made accessible as much as possible, so that people with visual or language-related impairments can also view them.
  • The website can be used on any PC, tablet, or smartphone, including with assistive devices.

PDF files

The accessibility guidelines set strict requirements for PDF files. At present, we cannot guarantee that all PDFs on our websites comply with these standards. Different requirements apply to PDFs that are more than two years old. It would take us too much time and effort to make all of these (older) documents accessible, and in this case, the law does not require us to do so. However, all new documents are uploaded in an accessible format.

Social media

We also take digital accessibility into account as much as possible on our social media channels. We do this by adding subtitles to videos, including alt text for images, and paying attention to sentence structure and text length. If you do encounter something unclear, please let us know.

Reporting accessibility issues

If you come across an accessibility issue on our website or social media — whether with a webpage, post, or part of it — please let us know via loket@deafsluitdijk.nl or call +31 – 800-6040.
